Q. Can you tell the readers a little about yourself? What made you want to
write?
A. This is perhaps the most difficult question to answer! Trying to sound interesting yet
enigmatic and clever – all at once? It’s a tough task.
Well, here goes…
I’m a Scotsman, married to a Canadian, whom I met in New Zealand, and we have
lived on three continents in three years. We have a three month old son, Gabriel,
who we both completely adore. Currently, we call Toronto “home” but not entirely
sure for how long and we are, rather illogically, happy with that uncertainty.
I have hankered to write for years. It was an itch that I just couldn’t scratch, no
matter what else I tried in order to shake it. The usual self doubts were there
whenever I gave any serious thought to it. Not being good enough, who would want
to read my writing, what did I have to say that was any different to the millions of
other books out there, did I have a writing “style”? I even bought a Dictaphone in
order to take writing by surprise but, alas, to no avail. The only way I could satisfy
the urges was to sit down and actually get on with it and explore my own
imagination.

Q. Do you read a lot? If so, who are some of your favourite authors?
A. Oddly for a writer, I really don’t read a lot. I am leaving myself open to accusations
of criticism and hypocrisy here and they are probably justified. However, in my
defence, I find that it’s my own stories and tales that I want to tell and so prefer to
write than read.

Q. 'Greater Expectations' is this your first book?
A. Yes, ‘Greater Expectations’ is my first book and I honestly thought it would also be
my last. The feedback and reviews are far beyond my expectations and so this has
spurred me on to writing a sequel, which I am doing now.

Q. What did you find difficult about writing this book?
A. Being honest, the most difficult part was getting started and then seeing it through to
a conclusion. Even after the first draft was complete – a process that took 3 short
months – I found that my own self doubts surfaced and it took me a few months of
hiding from the book before I could face it for the second draft and then the dreaded
editing.

Q. Have you published any other books? If so, Can you tell us about them?
A. Not yet although, as I say, I have started a sequel to ‘Greater Expectations’. I have
had lots of feedback and it seems that there is genuine interest in what happens
with Z and Penny, which is great.
To be honest, I share their curiosity so I am writing the sequel as much for me as
anybody else!

Q. Are you currently working on any new projects?
A. Yes, I am totally focussed upon the sequel of ‘Greater Expectations’. It is more of a
thriller than a romantic comedy and so challenging in a totally different way.
It’s still a whole lot of fun though!

Q. As a male author, what challenges or obstacles have your came across?
A.The main challenge was actually launching the book. There is so much of myself
invested within it that, given the content and subject matter, I was leaving myself
open to comparison, judgement, and ridicule.
Yet, it has proven to be the exact opposite.
It would seem that the idea of a marriage breakdown and then the new search for
love and romance – all from a male perspective – is intriguing and something
different for readers.

Q. How important are reviews to you? Do you reply to good and bad reviews?
A. Reviews are hugely important for me because they are the measure of approval for
my writing. I am a strong advocate that anyone who invests their time into reading
my work is perfectly entitled to their opinion, and I would encourage every single
person to share their thoughts by leaving a review. I completely understand and fully
appreciate that my book, like every other, will not have universal appeal. As such, it
is only natural and to be expected that the reviews should reflect this.
That is also why I don’t reply to any reviews. A review is a very personal opinion and
I am so very grateful to every single reviewer for further taking the time to write and
share their opinion for others to see. If I were to respond, then it could directly and
unduly influence future reviewers and that could also compromise the integrity of an
honest review - good or bad.
However, that said, I would welcome and encourage any comments or questions
sent to me directly and I answer every single one of these personally. This can be
done through my website www.aasmccabe.com, but I would stress that I regard the
readers opinion sacrosanct and it is not my business to interfere or try to influence
that in any way when they review my writing.

Q. How can readers get in contact with you or find out more about your books?
I can be contacted either through my website:
or through the ‘Greater Expectations’ Facebook page:
Please feel free to Like and Share

Q .Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven't included?
I would just like to sincerely thank you for having me and for everyone who has
stopped by, I truly appreciate it.
To everyone, have a safe, healthy, and very Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2015!

After graduating with a couple of useless degrees in law, Alexander McCabe left his Scottish homeland and wandered nomadically around the globe to experience the rich diversity of culture that the world has to offer.

For the moment, it is Toronto's turn to provide a suitable abode for him and the wife that he picked up along the way...

It is said that the course of true love never runs smooth - even for us men. Yet it has never been easier to find love than in this modern digital era where the mighty computer has all but rendered Cupid redundant. Love is now to be found, quite literally, at your fingertips. Although love also seems to have changed with the times. This new love is deceitful and manipulative, cunning and untrustworthy. Love has gotten ugly. Thankfully, not all the answers to life’s mysteries are to be found in the computer and Cupid - battered and bruised as he may be - proves that he still has some game and a few tricks up his sleeve…
