Eli Davenport thinks he’s found the perfect woman to be his wife. She’s a doctor, like he is. She’s brilliant, like he is. And she’s wealthy, like he is. Guinevere ‘Gwen’ Poe thinks her fiance is the perfect man. He’s handsome, successful and he was her first… But when Eli’s bride runs off with Gwen’s fiance on his wedding day, they are left to pick up the broken pieces of each other…

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

While reading I kept thinking “Shame on you Akeisha”. I cannot believe this is the first book I've read from this author. I did buy another one of her books a while ago with the promise of getting to it soon. You know how it is when you have a never ending TBR list and little time to get through it all.
The blurb is what caught my attention originally. The beautiful cover followed close behind. I saw it and thought drama and excitement and that is what the author delivered.

Have you ever read a book and thought to yourself “I want this time of love”. I know, I know it’s only fiction but the words and feelings behind the entire story were so real that I wanted it all. My own Dr. Asshole minus the artist part because I cannot draw to save my life lol.

About the story:
That Thing about Eli and Gwen follows two individuals that were left at the altar. Eli’s soon to be bride ran off with Gwen’s fiancé. Both not knowing that their worlds were connected come face to face with each other. Eli dislike for Gwen is based on who her fiancé was and their banter is what kept me laughing throughout the story.

That thing between Eli and Gwen was funny, captivating, and hot as hell but most of all enjoyable. I would definitely recommend anyone to try this story. I would re-read it a 1000 times and hopefully pray to get the initial feelings I got when reading it for the first time. Author J.J. McAvoy has a beautiful way with words. The author writes so well that even when I wasn't reading, my mind constantly went back to what was going to happen next.
The only little heart attack I had was the end of the story. I thought a book #2 was going to happen but the author did a good job summing it up. I want to beg for more but I won’t be greedy.* hint, hint*
